Bio and Resume

I graduated from University of Maryland with a degree in English Literature and Composition, having hardly ever used computers for anything other than the occasional paper and endless games of Tetris.  Having married a computer scientist, however, I discovered several hidden talents-- especially the ability to translate my husband's tech-talk for my mom.  I soon thereafter decided to "try out" technical writing, and took my first job as a technical writer for a NASA Goddard Space Flight Center contractor.  There I developed not only a talent for user-oriented documentation, but an ability for testing software (due to my uncanny ability to stumble on the most obscure software bugs, coupled with a memory and the ability to communicate exactly what I did to break the system).

1995 was, for techie-types, an important year due to the emergence of web browsers and the popularization of the internet.  I was lucky enough to be an "early adopter", becoming involved in developing both standard, static websites and database-driven web applications.

Finally, I have worked over the last few years with three separate CMMI appraisal efforts, consulting with project personnel as to how to achieve compliance.  (If you have no idea what CMMI is, consider yourself lucky!  ;-)  But if you find yourself in the position of needing to demonstrate compliance with CMMI Level 2 or 3, I can work with you to help you identify gaps and close those gaps.

I have over fifteen years of experience in all phases of the software life cycle, from the design stage through testing, release and post-release user support. I have developed basic websites, as well as database applications for the web.  I have also designed and produced a wide range of documentation, and, as a “user advocate”, provided software testing and system analysis of user tasks, workflow and interface issues, and supported CMMI process improvement activities.  My expertise lies in quickly grasping and communicating new ideas to both non-technical and technical audiences.
